Mission Statement

The mission of the Starts Within Organization is to decrease the recidivism rate by properly educating the offender during incarceration and strategically placing them with recruited employers according to their skills, making the transition from offender to ex-offender a success.

Vision Statement

The Starts Within Organization will be the most effective reentry program in Central Ohio.

About Us

Carlos Christian – Founder/CEO of The Starts Within Organization

The Starts Within Organization (S.W.O.) was formed in 2011 as a non-profit organization that combats the alarming recidivism rate that hinders the growth of communities across the nation. S.W.O. was formed by Carlos Christian who was born and raised in Oberlin, Ohio.
At the age of 13, Mr. Christian got involved into the ever growing drug trade which led to a 10 year prison sentence. He was incarcerated at The Marion Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio.
During his sentence, Mr. Christian dedicated himself to rehabilitation and being a positive role model for his community. Mr. Christian graduated from Marion Technical College majoring in Business Management with a 3.83 GPA. In addition he successfully completed an Administrative Office Technology vocational program.
Upon release Mr. Christian relocated to Columbus, Ohio where he went on to gainful employment, homeownership, and mentoring currently incarcerated individuals in penitentiaries and county jails. Mr. Christian is married with three children and currently lives in Columbus, Ohio.
